What causes prices to reduce: Market movers and Non-runners.
6:00pm Day before race;
I’m guessing here as I have no records to back it up but I’m fairly certain when markets are first posted would be by far the best time to bet but as the ratings aren’t available till later we’re unable to do that .
10:00 pm Day before race; I have years of data for this time slot as this is when I always placed bets, in that time the average was 20% better than SP but that was at best odds guaranteed.
8:30 am Day of race; Not as good as above at 12% but has the advantage reducing none runners by around 30% Best odds guaranteed.
If you bet early and your horse is a steamer you’re on at a good price but will have more Rule 4 to pay on any non-runners.
You bet later you may miss best price but have less Rule 4 to pay in the long run and you will have more of a choice of bookmakers offering BOG
There’s pros and cons for both but I’m of the opinion that the early bird gets the worm, best price.
