Wolverhampton 5-15 Handicap (Class 5) 16f
WINKLEVI (nap) rates top on the clock for this ten-runner staying handicap, courtesy of his second to solid yardstick Bascinet over this trip at Chelmsford earlier in the month.
Successful at the same venue on his previous outing, the selection comes into today's one grade higher contest in really good form, and it's also good to report that the go-faster visor he has worn of late has been retained.
A winner at Wolverhampton in the past, it will come as no surprise if he goes in again here.
Dundalk 5-30 Handicap 8f
MALACANNE went close in a seven furlong handicap at this venue a fortnight ago, and in the process managed to generate a top figure of 65. Bred to be just as effective over today's longer trip of one mile, the gelding must have every chance of going one place better, while his pencilled in odds of 4-1 can be considered more than fair.
Dundalk 7-00 Stakes 6f
SONG FOR WHOEVER landed a ten-runner maiden with plenty of authority over this track and trip last month, a performance that also saw the gelding register a top figure of 64. The form of that race has been franked since too, with the second horse home running 12 points faster when scoring at the same venue next time out. An 11-4 shot on the early tissue for tonight's contest, I'll definitely be a player at those odds or bigger.
Lingfield 1-15 Stakes (Class 6) 6f
MUSAYTIR got off the mark over this track and trip a fortnight ago, and also managed to generate a premier LTO speed rating of 68. The gelding had shown very little on most of his previous outings, but the fitting of a first-time visor clearly had the desired effect. The form of that race looks solid enough too, with the fourth horse home running one point faster when just denied at this same venue next time out. With the go-faster headgear in place again today, the selection must have every chance of following up.
Lingfield 2-20 Handicap (Class 4) 12f
TRALEE HILLS (nb) was returning from a two month break when running a close third over this track and trip a fortnight ago, a performance that also saw him register a premier LTO speed rating of 76. Top on the master speed list with a figure of 81, the gelding is clearly up to winning today's one grade higher handicap, even more so as he can be a consistent sort when firing on all cylinders. Chalked up at 9-1 with William Hill at the time of writing, those odds look bigger than they should be.
Wolverhampton 8-15 Handicap (Class 5) 9.5f
AMAYSMONT finished third in a Class 3 contest at this venue back in November, which makes tonight's drop down to Class 5 level look pretty significant. Add the fact that the selection rates clear top on the master speed list with a figure of 77, and here we have an 8-1 shot who can give a trio of better fancied last time out winners a decent run for their money. One to watch out for in the live market, that's for sure.
