Inspired by the boss I thought I would give the 4 or so people who actually read my posts a quick update on my progress recently with the new set-up and the systems I have been developing as it's been a while since my last update post.
For anyone new and wondering what I am talking about I maintain my own database and compile my own speed ratings. Around the start of this flat season my friend helped me develop a custom built piece of software and front end that uses my database and speed ratings.
Using this software I have developed systems (or selection methods) that automate the selection process. Better yet I have the ability to back test any system concept or idea against over 8 years of historical data. It truly is an awesome piece of kit.
There were many teething problems at the start and it took a few goes to get it right. The learning curve was steep but I finally got the hang of it and began to develop systems in abundance. I was so determined to get the systems built that I didn't go to bed or work for two whole months (which I ultimately paid the price for later).
However those two months have proven to be time well spent. Out of the hundreds of system ideas and concepts I built and tested there were several that constantly out performed the rest. However all required a massive amount of development time and with my time restricted from being back at work again, I had no choice but to abandon all but the absolute best.
They did and did not disappoint in August.
Starting with Valger Danue. A concept that shouldn't work and sometimes it doesn't. Starting with the core VD system which saw a 19pt loss in August. Profits for the year still exceed 200pts but still a disappointing result for the month nevertheless.
Valger Danue + Speed Ratings which is a variant of the core VD system mixed with my speed ratings had a much better month with 20pts profit. 6 winners from 22 selections. Like the core system profits also exceed 200pts for the year. All round good performance.
I have a few course specific Valger Danue systems in development. Without having to list each one they had an average month and largely broke even across 12 or so selections.
The best performer was the Simple System. 35pts profit at SP but at early prices the true profit is closer to 60pts. Profits for the year exceed 350pts which is 🤯🤯🤯. The simplest of all my systems and it out performs the rest by such a margin.
The various speed ratings systems all broke even (small profits) for the month. The biggest loser was the All Weather Top Speed system at minus 3pts.
All in all a good profitable month but a poor showing from the core VD system. However the price range the core system targets means it would only take 1 or 2 winners to be solidly back in profit. Backtesting results and +200pts profit for the year so far assures me those winners will come.
The Simple System though is blowing my mind. It found some very nice winners at solid prices. 35pts profit in a single month is a fantastic result and the YTD return is 🤯🤯🤯. Such a shame I only have a turf version of this system as I cannot make the same concept work on the all weather.
On the topic of system development there has really been very little work done since my last update. Actual work is still very busy, the schools are back which adds 2 hours to my daily commute, the wife has had family staying and as part of my recovery process after my accident I am trying to get back to the gym a few times a week. Free time has been an absolute luxury recently.
From next week though I am going to make time even if it is just an hour every evening and try to get the development process kick started again. My focus will be solely on the systems mentioned above as there is still a mountain of work to do.
However I have to say it has been nice recently to just sit back and reap the rewards for the mental amount of work I put in earlier this year in getting this off the ground. I have no idea how many hundreds of hours I poured into this and the results for August and the year to date show that hard work was not in vain.
Anyway if you made it this far I won't bore you any longer. Thanks for reading and hopefully we can smash it again in September.
Thanks,
Darth Niloc
Today agree with John, a enjoyable read
