A day of seconds yesterday. My best bet of the day Desert Boots blew the start and was recovering but far too late. Never in contention. My other two best bets both finished 2nd. From my other top rated selections, 5 out of 6 finished you guessed it 2nd.
All the 2nd's is actually a good thing as I realised after reading my post from yesterday again that I somehow omitted the paragraph with the albeit brief details regarding my approach and strategy (such as backing the other top rated runners in the place market!). I had all sorts of problems formatting my post yesterday (am using the app now which is much simpler) so I will try and be clearer moving forward with my strategy and how I am backing my selections.
Few races of interest today. Three contenders for best bet of the day but ultimately only one will qualify. I like Alligator Alley in the 19.00 Wolverhampton and Tollerton Forest in the 15.43 Lingfield but both have too many yellow flags and strong competition for me to be comfortable backing them for the win.
The one that just about qualifies is Pessoa in the 17.30 Wolverhampton. The switch to the all weather last year has really brought the best out of him with some good performances both here and at Southwell.
The are still concerns. The draw in stall 9 isn't the best but is countered by the expected pace which should suit. And the distance could also be better but I think he should be comfortable with the 8.5F. I also can't shake the notion that this race is a target for the trainer. It will be interesting to see how Pessoa's stable mate Wiff Waff runs this race...
The big threat is Broughtons Flare but he is another 3lb heavier and I reckon the weight for all his recent victories will finally slow him down. Getting close to a extra stone since his winning run started. He won his last two races by the slimmest of margins plus he has a certain Wiff Waff in the stall beside him. Not that I expect that to matter, just something I thought to mention. All in I believe he is a value bet, one with risk but the best I could find in a poor Saturdays racing.
Best bet of the day - 17.30 Wolverhampton - Pessoa @ 4.00 - 1pt Win
The two fore mentioned horses above round out the best of my top rated runners for the day. The following horses will be backed in the place market as follows - Would have been happier with a P3 in the Lingfield race but still looks to be a strong bet;
15.43 Lingfield - Tollerton Forest (P2)
17.30 Wolverhampton - Pessoa (P3)
19.00 Wolverhampton - Alligator Alley (P3)
1pt Treble @ 5.50
I don't know if there is any interest here in South African racing but my ratings cover most of the races that take place there. Frustrating thing about SA racing is the book only releases prices a couple of hours before the off. Still happy to share these or incorporate them with my other selections if there is any interest?
The above also applies to my USA ratings which are a never ending work in progress I started a few years ago. I keep them updated as I have found a profitable use for them with small each way and place market accumulator bets which pay out at a fairly consistent 2.00 - 2.50 return. Again happy to share the best of these if there is any interest?
Love it, first class summation and to cover overseas racing would be great and certainly add interest, just what I need to get my enthusiasm into top gear. Had a great run on the US racing once, a story for another day.
Only do what your comfortable with to avoid burn-out.
Was going to suggest the place market we will discuss it later. 😏
